Information About Laser Eye Surgery
Laser Eye Surgery, also referred to as ophthalmic surgery or ocular surgery, is a simple surgical procedure preformed on the eye by an ophthalmologist. Laser surgery, better known as Lasik (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) Eye Surgery, is a simple out patient procedure which utilizes a LASIK Laser and is designed to reduce the need of glasses or contact lenses.
LASIK Eye Surgery permanently changes the shape of the cornea (the clear cover of the eye), using an excimer laser. A microkeratome (knife) is used to make an incision in the cornea, where it is folded back to revile the stroma, the middlesection of the cornea. Pulses from a computer-controlled laser vaporize a portion of the stroma and the flap is replaced. There are several questions you should ask yourself before having Laser Eye Surgery. Your opthamologist should be able to assist you with your questions about Laser (Lasik) Eye Surgery and inform you of any concerns.
