Information About Eye Care
We all know that proper eye care is important and that it is recommended to have a yearly eye examination. Yes, we also know that yearly eye examinations can aid in detecting eye problems. We also know that there are several reasons why you should have your eyes checked every year: your vision may worsen for a variety of reasons and most are treatable, proper eye care can help doctors detect problems early and prevent further damage to your sight, and you may need glasses without noticing an obvious change in vision, not to mention that some eye illnesses occur gradually so you may not realize the problem. I have even heard that eye exams can provide important clues to your doctor about other health problems. Is this all true, or is this marketing? I think it is a little of both.
We all know that checkups are important: checkups with your doctor, your dentist, your physical specialist (male or female doctor), and your eye specialist. However, the arguement goes: by the time I see my dentist twice a year, my eye doctor once or twice a year, my physician, and my specialist, I am spending a fortune on health care and possible preventative maintenance costs for seemingly nothing. Right? I am sure you have heard or thought something similar to that statement. Well, I don't have an answer; but I have an opinion.
My opinion is do what you can; your health is all that you have. Eye care is important, oral health is important, and your doctors visits are important. What also is more important is to ensure that you have a reputable Doctor who is looking out for your well being. Do I visit the eye doctor once a year for a years eye checkup? Uh, close to once a year; I am once of those who will get a years worth of contacts and make them stretch for 18 months (I know Doc, if you are reading this you do not recommend that). However, the realization is that I do not have extra funds every year for replacement contacts so I try to make the ones I have stretch - so I do what I can.
Oh yeah, back to the topic of eye care. Eye Care is important - do what you can to see your eye doctor as close to once a year as you can; and go see your dentist too.
