LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK Laser Eye Surgery Picture LASIK Eye Surgery is the most commonly performed laser eye surgery, or refractive surgery procedure. Some people refer to the procedure as LASIX; however, the name LASIX is actually short for "laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis." Are you considering LASIK Eye Surgery or Laser Eye Surgery? Read on and if you have already had LASIK Eye Surgery or LASER Eye Surgery then post your comments or experience below in the message board.

LASIK Eye Surgery is very popular because there is a relative lack of pain after the procedure is complete, and the fact that good vision is usually achieved almost immediately, or at least by the very next day. LASIX Eye Surgery can also be 100% bladeless via new techniques with lasers, or many surgeons prefer to use the microkeratome; a microkeratome is used in LASIK Eye Surgery to create a thin, circular flap in the cornea.

Both nearsighted and farsighted people can benefit from the LASIK Eye Surgery procedure. The goal for an individual with nearsightedness is to flatten the too-steep cornea; with a farsighted individual, a steeper cornea is desired. Also, excimer lasers can correct astigmatism, by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more normal shape. Look into LASIK Eye Surgery today.

LASIK is a surgical procedure intended to reduce a person's dependency on glasses or contact lenses. LASIK surgery was developed in 1990 by Lucio Buratto (Italy) and Ioannis Pallikaris (Greece) as a melding of two prior techniques, keratomileusis and photorefractive keratectomy. LASIK is a surgical procedure that uses a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism. LASIK can also correct astigmatism by smoothing an irregular cornea into a more normal shape. Lasik involves a precise incision into the stromal layer of the cornea, creating a flap. Hence, in eyes with little existing higher order aberrations, "wavefront optimized" lasik rather than wavefront guided LASIK may well be the future. With nearsighted people, the goal of LASIK is to flatten the too-steep cornea; with farsighted people, a steeper cornea is desired. Similar to PRK and LASEK, Epi-Lasik creates a flap of the epithelium that is moved aside and replaced over the area treated with the excimer laser.
